EHiDE - Environmental Health in Disasters & Emergencies
The International Federation of Environmental Health (IFEH) is promoting an initiative to support international relief and development aid agencies: EHiDE – Environmental Health in Disasters & Emergencies.
The challenge we have set for ourselves is twofold.
Firstly, to work with the humanitarian aid agencies in developing a cadre of suitably prepared environmental health professionals who can respond at short notice to fulfil identified needs in (natural or man made) disaster situations. We envisage our “clients” would be those aid agencies with a track record in this field that have identified gaps in their environmental health expertise.
Secondly, we want to make the major aid and development agencies aware that there is a valuable human resource available to them. In many cases, these environmental professionals are living and working in countries where these organisations have already developed.
We will also facilitate further training and upskilling of members in our professional associations.
We will liaise with employers to ensure that members that have been trained can be in a position to take up assignments at short notice. We will work to source environmental health professionals “on the ground” in the countries where emergency relief is being provided.
The membership register is open to environmental health professionals from anywhere in the world. Interested individuals may contact one of the names below.
